Preserving your Art
To properly care for entomology and taxidermy pieces they need to be displayed in a dry environment free from pests, UV damage, and excessive heat.
Stable Temperature and Humidity:
Maintain a constant temperature between 15-20°C (50-80°F) and a relative humidity between 40-50% to prevent mold growth and desiccation. Avoid extremely low or high humidity, and rapid temperature fluctuations, as they can damage the specimens.
Minimize Light Exposure:
Protect pieces from direct sunlight and excessive light exposure, as they can fade colors and damage fragile structures.
Pest Control:
All specimens are stored in airtight containers with mothballs to help prevent any unwanted pests, however, this does not 100% guarantee that pests (mites and beetles) will not occur.
Freezing: For short-term storage or to kill pests, freezing can be effective. A long, deep freeze can kill pests, including larvae and eggs.
Mothballs/Naphthalene Flakes: These can be used as insect repellents inside sealed storage containers, but be sure they are secured to prevent damage.
Regular Checks: Inspect your collection regularly for signs of pests.
